2024 event small, but mighty!

It is not surprising that with rising costs, participation in recreational or fundraising activities may decline. The tournament for 2024 did bring in 90 golfers and allowed us to hold the event at 1 course this year. This provided the opportunity to focus on having a really solid experience for all players, volunteers, and guests. Huge thanks again to Kristy and Norma for being our Tournament Directors for the event. The Columbus Flyers sponsored our event by providing the amateur athlete payouts. They also donated several options to the raffle from the club stock.

This event would not be the success it has been without the volunteers and individuals who donate each year. Special thanks to Abba Mini Storage who purchased the fundraising discs as well as donations for the raffle/individual contributions from Brad Schick, Hocking Hills Disc Golf, Shawn and Elizabeth Smith, Katzinger’s Deli, Carsonie’s, Roosters, Ashleh Baumann, Don Baumann, Lisa Warner, PHX Ink Art, Don Eckrote, Amber Bernal, Kathleen Sheppard Art, The Columbus Flyers, Frank Garcia, Steve Bayless, Crimson Cup Coffee, Suzanne Barker, Robert Woda, Roxanne Sargent Art, Julian Bernal Art, Beardman Leather, Cuffed by Nano, American Awards, Villa Nova, Robyn McDougal, and Erin Holland. We also always have golfers show up the day of the event to put items in the raffle before their round!

The disc golf community is truly generous and welcoming. We believe we have THE best raffle at any charity fundraiser and the coolest trophies, but our biggest brag is the golfers, volunteers, and supporters who show up every year. This is “technically” our 9th event as 2020 was a small, unsanctioned putter event at Blendon which was Pheonix’s favorite course. Also very wheelchair friendly for anyone with accessibility needs.

The tournament went smoothly and the weather, though hot, was enjoyable, We have been flooded during prior events as well as a bit chilly. Ohio weather is unpredictable, but the support from the community is very reliable! Between fundraising disc sales, raffle ticket purchases, and event participation, we were able to allocate $7,500 to 5 local Columbus City Schools for their Orthopedically Impaired program students. The age range is preschool to high school and these classroom tools go a long way in helping youth participate, communicate, and socialize. We are delivering nearly 300 items over the next few weeks.

Thank you to all who continue to support this event and help make it a success every year!
